EXPLORE ROWING

Explore Rowing is a new initiative by British Rowing to encourage the non-competitive side of rowing in England.

Grosvenor is proud to be one of the pilot clubs.

Explore Rowing started at Grosvenor with a Dutch member who arrived in Chester with his own Dutch Touring Skiff, a group of the clubs members tried it, enjoyed it and in the course of time bought their own boat, the Eider. The Eider has been on the British Rowing Tour every year since, touring the Thames, Severn, Trent and Lancaster Canal to name a few. We have taken it to Windermere and members of the Explore group have been to Holland, France and Germany with the Dutch Rowing Association.

In 2010 Grosvenor signed up to the new British Rowing boat package that was the foundation of Explore Rowing. The aim is to increase participation in the sport and we now offer progression to the Explore Rowing group to graduates of our Learn to Row courses. Not everybody can give the amount of time and commitment needed to join a competition squad and we aim to offer a relaxed informal approach to rowing, with the flexibility to row at times that suit the individual with on-line boat booking and easy access to boats. We have a co-ordinator who is at the club on Sunday at noon and Wednesday evenings at 6 - 6:30 providing a focal point for beginners and new members.
